Frequently Asked Questions

How Can I Incorporate a Vitamin C Serum into my Skincare Routine?

We recommend applying the vitamin C serum after cleansing and toning, and before moisturizer and sunscreen.

Can I Use Vitamin C Serums in the Morning?

Yes. Vitamin C is safe to be used day and/or night. When applied in the morning, it works throughout the day to protect your skin against harmful elements like UV rays and free radicals that leave your skin looking dull. Always use a good sunscreen in the day to protect your skin.

How Long Will It Take to See Results?

Results may vary depending on individual skin type and concerns, however, most people start to see improvements in their skin complexion within a few weeks of using the serum regularly and consistently.

Can I Use Vitamin C Serums With Other Skincare Products?

Generally, vitamin C can be used with most skincare products. However, here are some ingredients we recommend not to use in conjunction with a vitamin C serum:

  • Benzoyl Peroxide – Used to treat mild - moderate acne, can cause vitamin C to oxidize, thus counteracting the effects
  • Retinol – Vitamin A, good anti-aging ingredient but combining with vitamin C can cause peeling, redness and irritation
  • AHA/BHA – Chemical exfoliants that help with cell renewal, combining with vitamin C can cause irritation
Can Vitamin C Serums Cause Sensitivity or Irritation?

Most people are able to use vitamin C serums safely, however, some individuals may experience slight irritation or sensitivity especially if they have sensitive skin or have never used a vitamin C product before. It is recommended to start with a lower concentration (10% Vitamin C) and to use 1 or 2 drops only, then gradually increase to a higher concentration (15% Vitamin C) to minimize the risk of irritation.

What Should I Look for When Choosing a Vitamin C Serum?

The best concentration for vitamin C to be effective is between 10-20%. Look for a serum that is packaged in an opaque container as that helps protect the serum from light and air, which causes oxidation.

What are the benefits of Vitamin C?

Commonly, Vitamin C is known to boost the immune system and help with the absorption of iron. However, they also play a significant role in maintaining the skin. Here are some of the skin benefits that you can get from Vitamin C:

1. Hydrates the skin

When your epidermis doesn’t have sufficient moisture, it will cause your skin to dry out and result in premature ageing. That’s why hydrating your skin is important to keeping your skin looking healthy and youthful.

This is where Vitamin C comes in to help. By adding products with Vitamin C into your skincare routine, like topical serums, you can help your skin retain moisture and keep it smooth, preventing oily or dry skin.

2. Boosts collagen production

Collagen is a type of protein that helps in the process of tissue repair, cellular communication, and cellular migration. When less collagen is being produced, once taut and firm skill will begin looking saggy and wrinkly. But Vitamin C can help with that.

Vitamin C is a nutrient that’s essential in improving the production of collagen, maintaining the plumpness and firmness of your skin and preventing fine lines and wrinkles from developing. Apply Vitamin C and allow your skin to absorb it directly with the use of topical serums.

3. Helps with hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation happens when you’re overexposed to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays and other environmental stressors. Overexposure to UV rays not only harms your skin by increasing your risk of skin diseases like skin cancer, but it can also make you look less youthful.

However, with Vitamin C’s antioxidant properties, you can get rid of these dark spots and prevent the other signs of ageing. Vitamin C can also be used in the prevention of hyperpigmentation, so make sure to always include Vitamin C serums in your day and night skincare routine.

4. Helps with under-eye circles

Don’t like the dark circles under your eyes? These are networks of blood vessels under your skin that are formed after days of bad sleep.

You can reduce or prevent these dark circles with Vitamin C. It helps in strengthening the thin, fragile skin under your eyes with its antioxidant properties. This will then result in making your under-eye skin more resilient and elastic, hiding the blood vessels underneath.

Why use Vitamin C Serum?

When you consume Vitamin C in foods or in the form of tablets, you might not be too sure if Vitamin C would directly be used for the improvement of your skin. But when you use topical Vitamin C serums, you’re sure that your skin directly absorbs the Vitamin C from the product and will be able to reap its benefits.

Who should be using Vitamin C serums?

Vitamin C is essential for the health of all skin types, although first-time users with sensitive skin may experience a stinging sensation or some redness upon usage. Therefore, people with sensitive skin need to choose products, which contain a gentler form of vitamin C, namely Ascorbyl Glucoside. You can find the ingredient Ascorbyl Glucoside in our Diamond Tomato® Youth Serum
