What is Vitamin C?

Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant often found in skincare products such as serums, and creams. Its scientific name is Ascorbic Acid or L-ascorbic Acid. Vitamin C is known as one of the best anti-ageing ingredients for maintaining a smooth, even, and glowing complexion.

How Does Vitamin C Work On Your Skin?

Vitamin C plays a vital role in maintaining skin health by targeting free radicals that can cause oxidative stress and damage skin cells. As a powerful antioxidant, it neutralises these harmful molecules, helping to restore balance and promote healthy cellular activity.

Specifically, Vitamin C stimulates collagen production, which enhances skin elasticity and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Additionally, it brightens the complexion by inhibiting melanin production, effectively reducing dark spots and uneven skin tone. By protecting against UV damage and environmental stressors, Vitamin C serums and other products not only helps to maintain a youthful appearance but also supports overall skin vitality and resilience.

What are the Benefits of Vitamin C Serum?

Commonly, Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant, known to boost the immune system and help with the absorption of iron. However, they also play a significant role in maintaining the skin. Here are some of the skin benefits that you can get from Vitamin C serum:

1. Hydrates the skin

When your epidermis doesn’t have sufficient moisture, it will cause your skin to dry out and result in premature ageing. That’s why hydrating your skin is important to keeping your skin looking healthy and youthful.

This is where Vitamin C comes in to help. By adding Vitamin C face serums into your skincare routine, you can help your skin retain moisture and keep it smooth, preventing oily or dry skin.

2. Boosts collagen production

Collagen is a type of protein that helps in the process of tissue repair, cellular communication, and cellular migration. When less collagen is being produced, once taut and firm skill will begin looking saggy and wrinkly. But Vitamin C can help with that.

Vitamin C is a nutrient that’s essential in improving the production of collagen, maintaining the plumpness and firmness of your skin and preventing fine lines and wrinkles from developing. Apply Vitamin C and allow your skin to absorb it directly with the use of topical serums.

3. Helps with hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation happens when you’re overexposed to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays and other environmental stressors. Overexposure to UV rays not only harms your skin by increasing your risk of skin diseases like skin cancer, but it can also make you look less youthful.

However, with Vitamin C’s antioxidant properties, you can get rid of these dark spots and prevent the other signs of ageing. Vitamin C can also be used in the prevention of hyperpigmentation, so make sure to always include Vitamin C serums in your day and night skincare routine.

4. Helps with under-eye circles

Don’t like the dark circles under your eyes? These are networks of blood vessels under your skin that are formed after days of bad sleep.

You can reduce or prevent these dark circles with Vitamin C serum. It helps in strengthening the thin, fragile skin under your eyes with its antioxidant properties. This will then result in making your under-eye skin more resilient and elastic, hiding the blood vessels underneath.

Why Use Vitamin C serum?

When you consume Vitamin C in foods or in the form of tablets, you might not be too sure if Vitamin C would directly be used for the improvement of your skin. But when you use topical Vitamin C serums, you’re sure that your skin directly absorbs the Vitamin C from the product and will be able to reap its benefits.

Who Should Be Using Vitamin C Serums?

Vitamin C is essential for the health of all skin types, although first-time users with sensitive skin may experience a stinging sensation or some redness upon usage. Therefore, people with sensitive skin need to choose products, which contain a gentler form of Vitamin C, namely Ascorbyl Glucoside. You can find the ingredient Ascorbyl Glucoside in our Diamond Tomato® Youth Serum

Frequently Asked Questions About Vitamin C Serum

How to Use/Apply Vitamin C Serum Correctly?

To apply Vitamin C serum effectively, start with a cleansed face. Squeeze 2 to 4 drops into your palms and gently pat onto your face, neck, and décolletage. Allow the serum to absorb before moisturising, and always follow with broad-spectrum SPF in the morning. Patch test if you're new to Vitamin C. For optimal results, use morning and night for 1 to 2 months, extending to at least 3 months for some skin types.

How Can I Incorporate a Vitamin C Serum into my Skincare Routine?

We recommend applying the Vitamin C facial serum after cleansing and toningand before moisturiser and sunscreen.

Can I Use Vitamin C serums in the Morning?

Yes. Vitamin C serum is safe to be used day and/or night. When applied on the face in the morning, it works throughout the day to protect your skin against harmful elements like UV rays and free radicals that leave your skin looking dull. However, you should still use a good sunscreen in the day to protect your skin.

Is it Okay to Use Vitamin C Serum Everyday?

Yes, it’s generally safe to use Vitamin C serum every day. Daily application can enhance your skin's brightness and protect against free radicals. However, if you have sensitive skin, start with every other day and gradually increase usage.

Should I Use Vitamin C Serum in the Morning or at Night?

You can use Vitamin C serum both morning and night. Applying it in the morning helps protect your skin from harmful elements like UV rays and free radicals throughout the day. However, always follow with a sunscreen to maximise anti-ageing benefits and maintain your skin's radiance.

How Long Will It Take to See Results After Using Vitamin C Serum?

Results may vary depending on individual skin type and concerns, however, most people start to see improvements in their skin complexion within a few weeks of using the Vitamin C serum regularly and consistently.

Can I Use Vitamin C Serums With Other Skincare Products?

Generally, Vitamin C can be used with most skincare products. However, here are some ingredients we recommend not to use in conjunction with a Vitamin C serum:

  • Benzoyl Peroxide – Used to treat mild-moderate acne, can cause Vitamin C to oxidise, thus counteracting the effects
  • Retinol – Vitamin A, good anti-ageing ingredient but combining with Vitamin C serum can cause peeling, redness and irritation
  • AHA/BHA – Chemical exfoliants that help with cell renewal, combining with Vitamin C serum can cause irritation

Can Vitamin C Serums Cause Sensitivity or Irritation?

Most people are able to use Vitamin C serums safely, however, some individuals may experience slight irritation or sensitivity especially if they have sensitive skin or have never used a Vitamin C product before. It is recommended to start with a lower concentration (10% Vitamin C) and to use 1 or 2 drops only, then gradually increase to a higher concentration (15% Vitamin C) to minimise the risk of irritation.

What Should I Look for When Choosing a Vitamin C Serum?

The best concentration for Vitamin C to be effective is between 10-20%. Look for a facial serum that is packaged in an opaque container as that helps protect the serum from light and air, which causes oxidation.

Which Vitamin C Serum Is Suitable For Me?

One of our budget-friendly serums contains 10% Vitamin C, while the other contains 15% Vitamin C and two other antioxidants, making it a triple antioxidant product.

If you are new to using Vitamin C, we recommend starting with the serum with 10% concentration. Vitamin C is a potent and acidic ingredient, so some people may experience some redness and tingling on the skin when first starting to use it. Once your skin becomes accustomed to the Vitamin C, these side effects should subside.

The 15% Vitamin C serum is also formulated with a richer texture that is better suited for individuals with dry, mature skin.

Do You Offer Free Shipping For Vitamin C Serum?

Yes, we offer free shipping for orders exceeding $60. This means that you can benefit from complimentary shipping when purchasing Vitamin C serums. However, for orders below this amount, a standard shipping fee of $5 is applied to each order. This fee is charged per location, meaning if you are ordering products to be shipped to multiple addresses, the $5 shipping fee will apply to each individual location.
